IN an incident that has left the Hwange community in a state of shock a 36-year-old Hwange man allegedly broke into a 76-year-old granny’s hut and raped her once before disappearing.
Mochane Ncube of Change Village appeared before Hwange magistrate Mr Peter Tomupeyi Madiba, facing charges of rape as defined under Section 65 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23 (rape)
He was remanded in custody to 26 March and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court It is the State’s case that on a date unknown to the prosecutor but in September last year Ncube broke into the old woman’s house after midnight knowing fully well that she was alone.
Ncube got into the old woman’s blankets thereby waking her up and she tried to scream but to no avail as the criminal had already muffled her with his hand.
The court heard that Ncube threatened the victim by telling her that he was a soldier and had a right to do anything he wanted.
He then raped her once before disappearing into the night and the old lady could not recognise him as she has a poor eyesight.
She then made a report the following morning to the Neighbourhood Watch Committee who traced his footprints as he usually put on air-tech push-ins.
Ncube was immediately arrested and handed over to the police. He is also facing other criminal charges in which he has not been tried.
Mr Sifelumusa Fuzane prosecuted.Meanwhile another man in Hwange ganged up with his three neighbours and severely beating up and stripping naked a man he caught having a nice time with his wife in their matrimonial bedroom.
This was heard at the initial appearance of Romano Nyoni (32), George Mudenda (32), Nyalini Nyoni (29) and Machona Nyoni (34) all of Champepo Village before the same magistrate facing assault charges.
The quartet was remanded out of custody to 7 April for trial. The prosecutor Mr Fuzane told the court that on 31 December last year Mudenda’s wife Ms Yobani Nyoni invited the complainant Mr Misheck Ncube (22) to their matrimonial home to quench her sexual desires.
Mr Ncube was reluctant at first but later gave in because of the pressure and assurance he got from the woman.
However they were unfortunate as the husband unexpectedly returned from Hwange Local Board where he is employed and caught them red-handed.
Mudenda then screamed alerting neighbours who then came to find out what was happening. The four then descended on the complainant hitting him with wooden stools and kicking him all over the body.
They then stripped him naked and threw him out of the house as they realised that he was unconscious. Mr Ncube told the court that he woke up around 2 am and went home to wear clothes.
He then made a report to the police leading to the arrest of the four. All four suspects denied the charges except for the wife who testified that she was caught red-handed by her husband, which resulted in the assault.
