Beitbridge (ZimEye) – This year’s edition of Mr Ugly was scooped by Elmas Chiganda (43) while Kwirirayi Mawunga (28) and James Moyana were crowned the ugly first and second princes at a function held in Beitbridge at the weekend.
Chiganda beat 15 competitors and walked away with 1 500 Rand. The first Prince R1 000 and the second Prince got a cool R750.
The guest of honour was Gunners head coach Moses Chunga.
Judges drawn from the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority were unanimous that Chiganda was the ugliest man in Beitbridge.
In his acceptance speech, Chiganda said; “I am the ugliest man in town…My looks have always been a subject of ridicule. When growing up people used to call me all sorts of names until I came to terms with it. I might be ugly but I have a good heart.”
Mr Ugly beauty contest was running for the second time after it was introduced last year with Peter Chikomokomo, named the inaugural winner. Chikomokomo however, did not make it this year.
Unlike in Zimbabwe however, in China the winner was awarded free plastic surgery to transform his looks after winning the country’s Mr Ugly contest and having lost his job because of his looks in 2004. (ZimEye, Zimbabwe)
